Ship Handling Experience at Port ASH, NSW.

The Geoffrey Evans Trust has sponsored a contingent of Navy Cadets to visit Port ASH twice - in January 2015 and in 2016.

Located near Newcastle, Port ASH is a ship handling facility which uses representative scale models to provide practical experience in manoeuvring ships in confined waters. It is used for ship's masters, officers, marine pilots and the RAN (Royal Australian Navy).

On both occasions a group of six cadets accompanied by ANC staff members completed a two-day program of instruction in bridge procedures, ship handling, berthing and pilotage under the guidance of the centre’s instructors, all of whom are experienced ship's masters and marine pilots.
