Frank Geoffrey Evans, OBE

7.2.1922 – 21.6.2012

Geoffrey Evans’s dedication to the Royal Australian Navy extended well beyond his 40 years of service. He was deeply interested in all Navy and national security matters and wrote frequently to newspapers, publications and organisations. His opinions and debate were highly regarded amongst his wide range of contacts: government, naval and personal. He became a member of the Press Council.

Geoffrey saw active service with the RAN in WW II (1941 -1947), and subsequently joined the RAN Reserve, retiring with the rank of Commander. He was keenly interested in the sea cadet movement and oversaw transition of control of the Navy League’s Sea Cadets to the Australian Navy Cadets under the auspices of the RAN.

Between 1956 and 1963 Geoffrey Evans was ADC to the Governor of Victoria, became the Governor’s private secretary and then his personal assistant.

Geoffrey was a member of the Navy League from 1967 -1973, Victorian President and then Federal President from 1972 -1994 and on the League’s advisory council.

In 1967 Geoffrey was made MBE for service with the RAN Volunteer Reserve. In 1982 he was made OBE for service to the Navy League of Australia.
